CS2 Update (Jul 9): C4 Damage Rework Follow-Up
TL;DR
- The C4 damage rework from last patch just got its first correction pass. If you were adjusting post-plant positioning around the new explosion model, the rules shifted again — worth another look before you lock in "safe" spots.
- Being technically in blast range no longer guarantees any damage at all. Valve removed the old map-wide floor that always ticked at least 1 HP.
- Dropped weapons now fly further when a C4 goes off nearby — a cosmetic-feeling change, but it can scatter guns away from where you dropped them post-death near a plant.
Gameplay: C4 damage, round two
This patch follows directly on the C4 explosion overhaul Valve shipped on July 8. Three changes:
- Damage floor removed. Previously, any player within the explosion's range took at least 1 point of damage regardless of cover or distance. That guaranteed minimum is gone — if the new precomputed damage values say you'd take zero, you now take zero.
- Boundary calculation bug fixed. Damage near the edges of separate map areas (e.g. across a doorway or a level transition) was being calculated incorrectly under the new model; that's patched.
- More force on dropped weapons. Guns dropped near a C4 explosion now get shoved further by the blast.
Net effect for players: the post-plant "safe distance" math from July 8 has already been adjusted once. If you're maintaining any content or personal notes about surviving a plant at a specific spot, treat those numbers as provisional until Valve stops iterating — this is clearly still being tuned, not a finished system.
Armory
A cosmetic fix: the "Sniper Ahead" sticker's visibility was adjusted when the sticker is scraped (worn down through use).
Everything else
Minor bug fixes: season medals were missing their gold tint on one of the medal's bars, and the scoreboard could get stuck without updating while held open. Both fixed, plus general stability improvements.
Skins and economy
No new collections or drop-rate changes — just the "Sniper Ahead" scrape-visibility fix above, which is a bug fix rather than a market-moving change.
"Removed map-wide minimum one point of damage from new C4 explosions. Fixed a case where new C4 damage was calculated incorrectly near boundaries to other map areas. New C4 explosions now apply more force to dropped weapons."
